[L-USA] New boxes

From: Daniel Servatius (elf@pclink.com) | Date: 1999-02-02 20:19:43 UTC-06:00
There's a new box in Wisconsin and one in PA.
I haven't forgotten about these, 've just been
really busy w/work, settling insurance claims,
taxes, etc. I will get to it very soon, next
couple of days probably. And...
also 4 Adrian's clues 'll set up a link though
I can't say I know what "WILD GOOSE 66??,76??"
means. Does anyone? Adrian? And did you want
maps for these - be interesting to have a map
of Dartmoor - Ya'll can show us where ya hail
from.

-Dan

Ps. I'm also going to have to move my files
from this computer to another one. I'm sure
that is going to cramp letterboxing for me for
a little bit as I have to set up new programs
to do the work. Just don't want you all to
think I've fallen off the edge.

HI ALL
Wild Goose is a farm on the moor. 66?? 76?? is the grid reference. 6650 7640 is the full ref but we sometimes replace the last two numbers with ?.
I will get busy with the my scanner and see what i can do on the map side of things.

Dan,

I just wanted to clarify for you so that you don't have to do extra work:
If you're referring to the new Mt. Tammany box, it's in NJ, not in PA.

Hope this prevents a whoops!

Thanks,
Marty

New boxes

CT TrAAveler and I have planted our first boxes. Hope
we have done everything right. My first stamp carving
is quite primative but I have experimented with
different erasers and art foam to begin with. Will
try better materials next time. We are hoping you
will enjoy the search for the Lt. Core Memorial in
Farmington, CT.

I have just recently begun letterboxing. I am a Girl Scout working on my Gold Award. My troop & I have chosen this because we think it is so intriging. I have place a box at the National Cemetery in Florence, SC. I really enjoyed doing this because it involved history and we all know the quote "History forgotten tends to repeat itself". I will also be placing another box at the Girl Scout office in Florence this weekend. Please check list and any new boxes in Florence & Harstville, SC were placed by my troop.

We look forward to hearing from everyone.

HAPPY LETTERBOXING!!

Amanda

That's great you are getting your Gold award with letterboxing. You should
try a PLB and share the joy around our country. How about sending a PLB to
other Girl Scouts around your area? My daughters were Girl scouts and I was
their leader. Unfournately, I grew up in New York City during the Great
Depression and World War II and both my parents worked and did not know anything Girl
Scouting or Camping .

Lots of luck & welcome to letterboxing.

Cool. So what's a Gold Award?

Girl Scout Gold is the highest award in Girl Scouts. It is much like the Boy
Scout Eagle except in Girl Scouts you have to earn the Bronze & Silver Awards
before you can earn Gold.

Now some exciting news for letterboxing. My first box that was placed at
National Cemetery will be receiving some local media attention. The Dir. of the
National Cemetery called yesterday and told me that I have to sign a "Memo of
Responsibility" in order to have box on US Gov. owned land. Tues or Wed the
National Cemetery will be hosting a "signing party" and have local media, my
principal, G/S Exec Dir and various other people there. I was told by the Dir
of National Cemetery that my request went to Atlanta & then on to Washington
for approval. My MOR will go back to Washington and he also said that this
could go as far as Congress. The location of the box will not be disclosed. I
think this is great because it will give letterboxing & National Cemetery media
attention. I hope this project will increase patriotism among our citizens.
Patriotism has fallen to very little importance.

Will let everyone know how it goes.

NOW I NEED SOME AVID LETTERBOXERS TO FIND MY BOX SO THAT I CAN REALLY
SHOW EVERYONE HOW IT WORKS!!!

Amanda

I would like to hide one at the cemetery but where do you hide it without it
being buried.

Others have done very well to hide boxes in stone walls, on the outside edge (lest well-meaning groundskeepers on the inside throw them out). Some use gravestones as checkpoints to make sure you're going in the right direction, then send us out of the cemetary to the treeline. Some graveyards (but fewer cemetaries) have little prayer/meditation gardens for visiters to use. Of course, this requires stone walls, treelines and little gardens. I recall some fairly stark cemetaries in Oklahoma...
